Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage
Our bodies can suffer at times from repetitive use, degeneration, strain, poor posture, poor physical condition, accident and injury.
Remedial massage aims to restore muscles to a healthy and functional state. Techniques include massage, trigger point release, mobilization, muscle stretching, hot and cold therapy.
Depending on the level of dysfunction or injury, several sessions may be required -one session cannot fix deep seated, chronic or long term problems. The first consultation also typically involves an average of 15 minutes of assessment.
Benefits include improved blood flow, circulation, movement, pain reduction and improved wellbeing.
'Whenever I have a muscular pain or need relief from stress, I have a remedial massage. Bronwyn has helped me with shoulder, neck, back, arms, hands, legs and feet problems.' Carol
'Standing on my feet all day my back really aches. An hour session on the massage table and it feels so much better'. Thank you! J.R.
Oncology Massage
Oncology Massage
Oncology Massage (OM) is ‘mindful massage’ focusing on eliciting the relaxation response in clients who have cancer, are in treatment for cancer or who have a history of cancer. It may also benefit patients and suffers of other debilitating conditions that leave them too sensitive or unable to receive regular massage.
Oncology massage therapists are trained to be mindful of the patient’s condition, symptoms and related needs, to work safely with and around tumour sites, devices and areas of pain.
OM can improve bowel movement and modify the unwanted side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Medical research shows that the benefits of oncology massage continue for several days after the massage experience and, in conjunction with meditation, can create moments of stillness and peace in the midst of the emotional chaos of the cancer journey.
'After one of my Oncology Massages, as I tried to come back to earth, I realized that what makes it so special is that it helps me go deeply and quickly into my 'still' place -much more quickly than meditation or any other mindfulness techniques. It is an incredibly relaxing experience and extremely beneficial when you are undergoing all the stresses and strains of cancer treatment. I wish I could have one every day.' Colin
'My shoulder was really giving me grief after my breast reconstruction following breast cancer, mastectomy, radiation therapy etc. With gentle work -VERY gentle it is so amazing, Bronwyn got my shoulder to loosen up. I didn't realize just how much I was holding in there. These massages are so beneficial.' Barbara.
Decongestive Lymphoedema Therapy
Decongestive Lymphoedema Therapy
This therapy assists in the treatment of lymphoedema and venous insufficiency odema.
It is a combination of manual lymphatic drainage, skin care, prescribed exercise including breathing exercises, compression garments as well as basic education on how to live with lymphoedema.
Lymphoedema is an abnormal accumulation of lymphatic fluid caused by a malfunctioning of the lymphatic system. Characteristics of lymphoedema involve swelling, changes in skin texture, vulnerability to infection and vulnerability to chronic low level inflammation (source: p2 Casley-Smith ‘Complex Lymphatic Therapy Workbook’). It can be very painful and uncomfortable and if infection occurs that is not properly managed, may quickly become life-threatening.
Lymphoedema is either a primary condition whereby the individual is born with the condition or it is a secondary condition occurring as a consequence of an event such as surgery post cancer or following an accident that has impacted the lymphatic flow/system. More rarely seen in Australia it is a secondary lymphoedema condition caused by a tropical parasite infection called 'Filariasis' that is found in some tropical countries.
In the Western world, secondary lymphoedema is the more commonly occurring form of lymphoedema and it occurs in both men and women.
For some people, lymphoedema may be a relatively mild condition that comes and goes, for others lymphoedema may be a lifetime condition requiring medical supervision, daily management involving exercise, skin care and self-massage while for others they may go on for years after their cancer treatment before feeling the first signs of lymphoedema.
The goal of this therapy is to work where necessary, with your medical practitioner and other medical professionals, to help you become confident and self-sufficient in your lymphoedema self-care. With the right attitude and approach, great results can be achieved. The steps in this therapeutic service will help you get there.
'I've had lymphoedema since I was a child. I am in my 70's having have had a hip replacement and two knee replacements, I cannot pull on compression stockings anymore. I was referred to Bronwyn when I was virtually immobile because my legs had gotten so bad. Bronwyn helped me by providing lymphodema massage, giving me some simple exercises to do, ordered special compression garments that wrap around my legs plus taught my husband how to massage my legs. All of this has made so much difference! We are now about to travel around Australia!' Jan

Few body structures have more influence over your health and well-being than your central nervous system. And few body systems have more impact on your central nervous system than the craniosacral system –the soft tissues and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord
Light touch is used by the therapist who carefully listens with her hands to locate areas of weak fluid flow or tissue motion in the craniosacral system. Delicate techniques are then applied to release problem areas and improve the form and function of your central nervous system.
A session can last up to an hour or more, you remain fully clothed throughout the session and other therapies may be incorporated with great effect.
